Welcome to MGDB!

MGDB is an encyclopedia dedicated to the early Metal Gear games.
I plan on covering everything between Metal Gear (1987) and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001).
Perhaps even Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004)!

I believe that the existing FANDOM Metal Gear Wiki can never do the original games justice, as its pages are written from the perspective of the modern lore. My intention is to create articles written from the original perspectives presented by each game, completely avoiding the absurd retcons and plot developments introduced after MGS3. Additionally, characters that appear in multiple games will have multiple articles, covering each iteration of the character (for example, the MG2:SS "Big Boss" article will not contain retcons from MGS).

When exploring the lore, I will be using not only the games themselves as sources, but also marketing materials such as game manuals, magazine excerpts, and official websites. I aim to create a fresh, unique perspective on early Metal Gear lore, using well-cited, non-contradictory secondary materials. I will not be putting any wacky theories into the main articles, but I may create a separate section to explore such concepts.

I also intend to host a variety of related materials on the site, such as fan translation patches, game manuals, marketing materials, interviews, and archived webpages.
